Women's Health: Prenatal and Postpartum Physical Therapy and Yoga

Yoga Therapy Bar is proud to provide women’s health services which includes prenatal and postpartum physical therapy and yoga. Prenatal physical therapy and yoga is available for pregnant mothers. It includes therapeutic exercise, therapeutic activity, massage, manual therapy, Pilates, education, a video home exercise program, and more. Quite often during pregnancy women experience significant changes that affect their mental and physical health. As a result, Dr Nekita Sullivan customized a holistic service of physical therapy and yoga to improve the physical and mental health of mothers. Pregnancy can be a high anxiety time for mothers-to-be. As a result, the spouse is invited to participate for support.

During pregnancy the body experiences changes such as: swelling, back pain, hip pain, pelvis pain, sciatica, carpal tunnel syndrome, fatigue, sleeplessness, and anxiety. Prenatal physical therapy and yoga is available during all three trimesters. Each trimester brings different physical and mental changes. Therapeutic exercises and activities are modified based on symptoms. Each session is one hour in duration once a week throughout the pregnancy. Some of the therapeutic exercises and activities include: sitting, standing, kneeling, lying on your side, and lying on your back. All positions and exercises are again modified based on the mother's tolerance to that position, exercise, or activity. Equipment used may include a stability ball, yoga mat, resistance bands, tennis balls, Pilates balls, and balance poles.

After giving birth the body and mind experiences additional changes. Postpartum physical therapy and yoga is available to assist the mother with transitioning back into safe activity and exercise with supervision. The time immediately after giving birth is a sensitive period. It is important to begin some activity. Often mothers are unsure of the appropriate type, amount, and duration of activity to resume. Postpartum physical therapy is helpful in finding that balance to prevent too little activity or too much activity. An additional service offered is mommy and baby yoga which allows bonding time. Communication with the mother’s health care providers such as obstetricians, midwives, and doulas are available if requested. There is no cap on the number of sessions. Sessions can continue monthly as the mother feels comfortable with returning to the lifestyle that allows her to thrive and live her best life at home, work, and in the community while caring for her family.

Women’s health services currently are provided Thursday through Saturday in the studio, virtually, and in the home.  Physical Therapy services are an hour in duration one-one-one.  Pricing options include a flat fee for one treatment or a package. No referral is needed.  There are no insurance limitations.  Appointments are available the same week. Mothers will not be passed off to an assistant. Mothers will not receive an unexpected medical bill in the mail. Email Dr. Nekita Sullivan at info@yogatherapybar.com for details.
